CDT: Spikes’ roster in major shuffle mode

UNIVERSITY PARK — The State College Spikes went on a six-game roadtrip and returned to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park with a new team.

Spikes left-hander Mike Felix made his season debut with the team on Sunday against Mahoning Valley. He threw four innings of relief in a 5-4 Scrappers win.

OK, that’s stretching it. But today’s Spikes don’t resemble the group that started the season here earlier this month.

CDT: Spikes manage series win

AUBURN, N.Y. — The State College Spikes were able to win consecutive games for the first time on this young season. It just took one adventurous moment to achieve it.

Pat Irvine drove in the winning run in the 10th inning and the Spikes overcame what could have been a disastrous moment an inning before to score a 4-3 victory over Auburn on Saturday.

North Side Notch: State College and GCL Pirates Introduction

The North Side Notch (Pirate Fan Blog) provides a take on some of the Spikes:

For those that read my “Minor Matters,” you’ll notice that 2 more teams have been added to it. That is because the State College Spikes and the GCL Pirates have started play. A lot of people do not know much about prospects for these two teams because there really is not much to go by. They’re mostly made up of either draft picks from this year (ex: Victor Black), people who signed late last year (ex: Wes Freeman), players from Latin America you have never heard of (ex: Eliecer Navarro), or guys who won a game show in India (haha, seriously, they’re finally playing).

Sandlot Swashbucklers: Sanchez Debuts With Game-Winning RBI

This year’s first round pick, Tony Sanchez, made his professional debut with the State College Spikes last night.  He singled in two at-bats and had the game-winning RBI in the top of the 9th.
