BATAVIA, N.Y. — Not even another productive game from a former Centre County standout could slow the State College Spikes.

UNIVERSITY PARK — Examining the workload of Oneonta starters represents the best way to describe Thursday’s two-game conundrum.

In the opener, Luis Sanz pitched the first complete game in Medlar Field at Lubrano Park’s professional history.

In the nightcap, Cory Hamilton recorded just one out, the shortest start in the ballpark’s four years.

So, yes, the State College Spikes’ night went from brutal to beautiful in a hurry.

Stepping up to the plate with two outs, Brock Holt just wanted to drive in a run.

But when the 1-0 pitch arrived, Holt sent it over the center field wall and helped lead the Spikes to what manager Gary Robinson said was the team’s biggest comeback of the season.

The shortstop’s two-run shot in the bottom of the sixth inning gave the Spikes their first lead of the game after the team trailed by as many as four runs and energized the Medlar Field at Lubrano Park crowd. The homer helped the State College Spikes (27-25) reestablish the momentum from the visiting Oneonta Tigers (27-22) and propelled the Spikes to a 9-4 victory.

Right before the bottom of the fifth inning started Tuesday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing” blared over the loudspeakers.

It may not have directly motivated the Spikes’ offense, but something clicked in that inning. The Spikes scored four times in the bottom of the fifth to erase a four-run deficit and jumpstart a 9-4 comeback victory over the Oneonta Tigers.

The Spikes’ Brock Holt takes off on his way to a double during State College’s 9-4 win over Oneonta on Tuesday. Holt added a home run and four RBIs in the game.

And then Justin Byler doubled to left field to begin Tuesday’s fifth inning against Oneonta.

And then Craig Parry doubled to the left-center gap.

And then Brock Holt followed Parry’s double with one of his own over center fielder Jamie Johnson’s head.

And then the Spikes were on their way to recording a long-awaited comeback victory.

FISHKILL, N.Y. — Brock Holt tripled and scored the game-winning run on David Rubinstein’s sacrifice fly as State College outlasted Hudson Valley 3-2 in 10 innings in a New York-Penn League baseball clash on Sunday.

The triumph gave the Spikes (26-25) the rubber game of their three-game series, their first road series triumph against a non-Pinckney Division team this season.
