Former Greenbrier High School baseball star and Georgia Tech product Brandon Cumpton has signed a contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Cumpton was drafted by the Pirates in the ninth round of Major League Baseball’s First-Year Player Draft in June. He said he will fly to Pittsburgh for a physical before joining the State College Spikes, the Pirates’ short-season affiliate in the New York-Penn League.
The right-handed pitcher helped Greenbrier win back-to-back state championships before playing three seasons with Georgia Tech. High school and college teammate Jeff Rowland was also drafted and signed a deal with the Detroit Tigers earlier this summer.
