Maybe the teenagers pitching for the State College Spikes will be s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d out to last five innings one of these days.

When you hand somebody who just wore a prom tuxedo enough money to buy an Escalade or Bentley, you might want to learn if he can handle an opposing lineup multiple times.

But, the Pittsburgh Pirates operate in a different realm than other organizations, including the two-time defending National League champions.

Oh, those mean Philadelphia Phillies.

They made 19-year-old Julio Rodriguez throw 97 pitches and work 6 2/3 innings for the Williamsport Crosscutters last Saturday.

Zack Von Rosenberg could have showered, crossed the Susquehanna River, toured Little League headquarters and returned to Bowman Field to catch the end of Rodriguez’s outing. Von Rosenberg, 19, threw just 53 pitches in four innings for the State College Spikes
