STATE COLLEGE – The State College Spikes produced a five-run flurry in the fifth to take the lead, but the Hudson Valley Renegades responded with six runs of their own in the sixth, leading to a 12-7 win in a Monday night slugfest at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.
The Spikes (10-8) and Renegades (7-10) combined for 28 hits in the game, with 12 coming in back-to-back half-innings. In the bottom of the fifth, State College plated four of their five runs with two outs thanks to four straight hits by Walker Gourley, Adalberto Santos, Matt Curry and Chase Lyles. Hudson Valley came right back with seven hits in the top of the sixth, a Medlar Field at Lubrano Park record, and forced two pitching changes by the Spikes.
