UNIVERSITY PARK — It would be kind to say that State College’s Gerlis Rodriguez and Walker Gourley were “slumping” to start the New York-Penn League season.

In fact, Rodriguez (.048) and Gourley (.083) combined were about 70 points short of the Mendoza line heading into their at-bats in the fourth inning.

But when the Spikes needed a couple of big hits to snap a 1-1 tie in that inning, Rodriguez and Gourley delivered.
