UNIVERSITY PARK — Andury Acevedo joined the Pittsburgh Pirates’ farm system in 2007 as a gangly, 16-year-old shortstop from the Dominican Republic.

Three years later, he’s learning his third position.

Acevedo is four games into a stint as a right fielder. Acevedo changed positions after playing third base during extended spring training. He has already started four games in right field.

“It’s pretty remarkable what he has been able to do just from an instincts standpoint because he really doesn’t know a whole lot about what he’s doing,” State College Spikes manager Gary Robinson said.
