Bankston pitches seven superb innings despite loss
STATE COLLEGE, PA – The State College Spikes saw their four-game home winning streak evaporate with a 4-2 loss to the Batavia Muckdogs at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park on Wednesday night.
State College (10-10) nearly came back from a 4-0 deficit entering the bottom of the ninth inning. Pat Irvine drove in David Rubinstein with an RBI triple, and Edward Garcia followed that with an RBI single to slash the Batavia (11-9) lead in half. Butch Biela’s one-out walk then put the tying run on base. However, Batavia reliever LaCurtis Mayes (2) was able to get the final three outs to provide the final margin in front of 3,268 fans at the ballpark.
