-SPIKES AND D-DAYS START SERIES TONIGHT: The State College Spikes welcome the Auburn Doubledays to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park for the first time in the 2009 season tonight to start a three-game set. The Spikes took two of three from the Doubledays last weekend.
-LAST NIGHT: State College got great performances from three of their newest additions, but squandered a four-run lead to lose, 6-4, to Mahoning Valley at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Victor Black and Phillip Irwin each pitched a single perfect inning with two strikeouts, and Aaron Baker crushed a triple to right-center field for his first pro hit to drive in a run. Black and Irwin combined with Spikes starter Jason Erickson to allow the Scrappers just one hit through six innings. However, Mahoning Valley scored a run in the seventh and three in the eighth to tie the game, then ended up winning on Justin Henry’s two-run single in the ninth.
