Two new Spikes star in defeat

UNIVERSITY PARK — The routines Brock Holt and Pat Irvine developed this past spring yielded gaudy results.

Leaving college, playing everyday, hitting with a wood bat and facing strong-armed pitchers in unfamiliar places alters outlooks, which means nights such as Sunday can reestablish the confidence once displayed by the former college stars now playing for the State College Spikes.
